A long and successful  journey

The two photographs below depict a ten year long journey on which Heat & Power Services Ltd have been unceasingly committed to a sector that promotes energy sustainability as well as the efficient management of organic by-products generated by human activity and respect for the environment.
HPBS-Poundbury
The first picture took place in Poundbury, United Kingdom in 2012 where we put into operation the first commercial biogas treatment plant with injection of biomethane into the country’s natural gas network. To this day, the plant continues to be a benchmark in the sector and following an increase in its capacity in 2020, it now processes close to 1,000 Nm3/h of biogas.

The digestate generated by the digestion of the agricultural by-products is commercialised as a nutrient rich fertilizer through the Bloomin Amazing trademark, providing added value which is returned to its origin in the countryside.

In addition, this project boasts an innovative method of capture of the secondary current of CO2 (generated by the biogas treatment process) in which the said gas achieves food grade certification and is added to the carbonated drinks in the process chain of local cider manufacturers.  In this way the circle of sustainability is closed with neutral global emissions.

One of our main objectives has always been to develop this project model in the Iberian Peninsula which, as a result of its powerful agroindustry, has enormous biomethanation potential and which we believe will be one of the large-scale assets of the European Union’s energy policy.

Thus, after more than 10 years of on the ground experience in a multitude of relevant projects across the continent, we reach the second photograph which is of Heat & Power Biogas Services S.L., our division for Spain and Portugal, and the expansion in 2022 of our Valdemingomez Biogas Treatment Plant in Madrid.  This project is the largest in the biogas market in Spain and a benchmark at European level.

On this journey we have developed our activity in lead markets in the sector, with particular importance in the United Kingdom as well as in the field references in countries such as France, Holland, Sweden and Ireland, with more than 50 references in the sector at this current time.

We hope that the recent approval in Spain of a Sistema de Garantías de Origen para los Gases Renovables (Renewable Gases Origin Guarantee Scheme) and the European Union’s  REPowerEU plan will enable the Iberian market to finally take off and position itself amongst other leading European markets within the sector. At HPBS we believe that, on this long and successful journey, we can continue to add value to industry, society and the environment.
